Salmon, sea trout and whitefish all swim up the Kymi river, as far as they can. At the Korkeakoski branch the distance to the sea is about two kilometres and the nearly ten meter vertical falls have stopped the fish even before a power plant was built. Lots of fish pack into these rapids during the salmon run.
A fishing pier has been built below the power plant, from where catching big salmon and sea trout is propably more likely than anywhere else in Finland. It's not too easy, though, often the only thing you gain is experience.
Variety for fishing in the Fall is brought by the whitefish. On a good day you can catch several, on and above the two-pound mark. There's a facility for smoking the freshly caught fish at the location. It's hard to surpass a dish like warm smoked whitefish...
The fishing divides into two periods: the day permit ( 6 am - 6pm) and the night permit ( 6 pm - 6 am). The pier accommodates a maximum of 40 fishers, so during the best season it's a good idea to reserve your place early.
You can reserve your permits from Salakala Kotka by phone:
