Tattarinkoski harling area

The rowboat fishing licence area of Tattarinkoski is long. It is one of the least used stretches of river for fishing in the entire lower course of Kymijoki. The fishing area begins below the Väkinäinen bridge, after Hinttulankoski. It continues a long way downstream, near the neck of Langinkoski. The profile of the area is a rather smooth stream with rocks and holes, with the exception of the short and rocky rapid area of Tattarinkoski. The neck of Tattarinkoski is a top fishing spot for both running salmon and sea trout.

It is especially good for catching sea trout running to the river in the spring after shoals of smelt. Most of the trout running in the spring will only visit the river for a snack of smelt and stay in the lower part of the rowboat fishing area. They will never proceed as far as Siikakoski. Thus, the Tattarinkoski rowboat fishing area can yield more than one fine sea trout if the fisherman is in the right place at the right time.

The use of one’s own boat is allowed in the area, but the boat must not be stored in the area without the landowner’s permission. The Siikakoski fishing licence is needed for fishing in the Tattarinkoski rowboat fishing area. The Siikakoski fishing rules are in force. Fishing from the riverbank, where it does not disturb residents is allowed. Casting from anchored boats is also allowed. The area is however reserved primarily for rowers. In fishing situations, the rowers take precedence. Fishing is possible in the area from the beginning of March to the end of September, as with the other rapids of the Siikakoski licence area.
